New Poll Shows 70% of Millennial Voters Want Abortion Limits

A new poll shows most young voters want limits on abortion.

The Demetree Institute for Pro-Life Advancement, in conjunction with YouGov and Survey USA, released its annual poll exploring abortion views among younger voters, particularly Millennials and Gen Z.

Contrary to the assumption that these demographics strongly support abortion, the poll revealed a preference for abortion restrictions and pro-life legislative measures.

Nearly 7 in 10 young voters favored some abortion limits, an increase from prior years, and only 9% supported the unrestricted abortion policies advanced by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. This indicates significant divergence from the Democratic Party’s abortion-centric platform, which did not resonate with voters during recent elections.

As noted in the Executive Summary Report here: “Media and politicians often claim that this critical demographic, now almost HALF (48.5%) of the electorate, are solidly on the side of abortion. The facts tell a different, nuanced story, as did the most recent election. When offered the choice between the most radical pro-abortion ticket in U.S. History, this demographic did not embrace Kamala Harris, who lost ground as 46% of voters 18-29 voted for Donald Trump, according to the Tufts University CIRCLE analysis. Millennials went much farther in their support, notes Deseret News, as Trump ‘did better among Millennial voters, closing in on Harris, who was ahead by only 1 percentage point.’”

The poll highlights growing concerns over chemical abortion pills and their impact on women’s health and the environment. Over 90% of respondents supported protective measures like mandatory ultrasound screenings, blood testing for fertility risks, and studies on environmental impacts.

In addition, 66% backed in-person consultations to prevent misuse or abuse of abortion pills. These findings underscore a demand for stricter safety protocols, reflecting the belief that the health and well-being of women and unborn children should be prioritized.

Support for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act was another key finding, with nearly 9 in 10 young voters agreeing that babies born during botched abortions should receive medical care. The survey also revealed strong opposition to infanticide, with 66% supporting emergency response measures for such cases. This aligns with a broader rejection of extreme abortion practices and positions young voters as a constituency supportive of life-affirming policies.

Notably, the poll found that more than half of respondents viewed legislators favorably when they implemented protections for people and the environment against abortion-related harms. This presents an opportunity for the GOP to lead on pro-life issues, leveraging the growing consensus among younger voters. By focusing on family support, restricting abortion, and advancing environmental protections, Republican legislators could gain significant political traction.

The survey also showed a shift in attitudes toward Planned Parenthood. Many young voters expressed concerns about its involvement in providing puberty blockers and hormone therapy, with over 40% opposing its practices. Additionally, after learning more about Planned Parenthood’s operations, 30% of respondents viewed the organization less favorably. The poll revealed that less than half of young voters supported federal funding for Planned Parenthood, indicating a potential avenue for defunding initiatives.

Planned Parenthood’s role as a taxpayer-funded entity was also scrutinized, with 41% believing that the organization’s services could be replaced by federally qualified health centers. This suggests that many young voters see alternative providers as viable options for reproductive health services. The findings point to an educational opportunity for pro-life advocates to share information about Planned Parenthood’s practices and influence public opinion.

The poll also explored the moral and ethical considerations around abortion. A majority of respondents, 6 in 10, believed that human rights begin in the womb, with only 25% asserting that these rights commence after birth. Furthermore, pain experienced by preborn children emerged as a significant factor, with 63% supporting abortion limits if the child could feel pain at 12.5 weeks gestation and 66% supporting limits at 24 weeks. These insights highlight a growing concern for the dignity and humanity of preborn children.

Economic and social support for families was identified as a critical issue, with 31% of young voters indicating they would be more open to abortion limits if families received better assistance. This underscores the importance of holistic pro-life policies that address the needs of both mothers and children. Legislators could enhance support for young families through measures such as child tax credits, parental leave, and affordable childcare.

The findings reflect a significant political shift among Millennials and Gen Z, who now represent almost half of the electorate. This demographic’s nuanced views on abortion challenge the narrative that younger voters are uniformly pro-choice. The survey’s results signal an opportunity for political leaders to align with pro-life principles and policies to engage these voters effectively.

The Demetree Institute’s poll reveals a broad consensus among younger voters for protective measures that prioritize life, health, and the environment. It also highlights potential vulnerabilities for abortion providers like Planned Parenthood and opportunities for legislators to implement pro-life policies with widespread support. These findings provide a roadmap for advancing pro-life initiatives that resonate with a pivotal and growing segment of the electorate.
