Priests for Life National Director Frank Pavone issued the following statement today about the closing of abortionist Warren Hern’s Boulder Abortion Clinic in Colorado:
While increasing numbers of unborn children are being killed in abortions in Colorado, it’s still good news that the business run by late-term abortionist Warren Hern in Boulder has closed its doors.

Hern’s killing center – at which I have prayed and protested – has been one of those included in our efforts to shine a bright light on late-term abortion in the United States. (See www.LateAbortion.org.)
As part of this project, Priests for Life partnered with Abortion Free New Mexico to uncover that late-term abortions do happen and are not all that rare, and that they happen on healthy mothers carrying healthy babies. (Listen to the call we made to Hern’s business here).
I will never forget obtaining a copy of a textbook Hern wrote called Abortion Practice, in which he describes a late-term procedure abortionists call Dilation and Evacuation but pro-lifers correctly call dismemberment abortion.
“Hern wrote: “The procedure changes significantly at 21 weeks because the fetal tissues become much more cohesive and difficult to dismember. This problem is accentuated by the fact that the fetal pelvis may be as much as 5cm in width. The calvaria [head] is no longer the principal problem; it can be collapsed. Other structures, such as the pelvis, present more difficulty….A long curved Mayo scissors may be necessary to decapitate and dismember the fetus…”(p.154).”
Decapitate and dismember the fetus. This is a living human being torn limb from limb. Yes, this happens.
Hern has been killing fully developed, healthy babies for more than 50 years. On his website announcing the closing of his clinic, he says he is passing on this ‘sacred commitment’ to others.
Other notorious late-term abortionists have retired, including Curtis Boyd in New Mexico. LeRoy Carhart, who did his killing in Nebraska and Maryland, died in 2023. But that doesn’t mean these types of abortions have stopped. Indeed, many of the states passing pro-abortion amendments are working toward eliminating all limits on gestational age. That’s why the pro-life movement still has much work to do, first in exposing the gruesome reality of late-term abortion, and then ending abortion at any stage of development.
This is our sacred commitment to the unborn.
