This “Schumer Shutdown” has been planned and packaged to advantage Democrats. Democrats are having strategy calls, and they have a war-room set up in partnership with far-left organizations. They have been planning this shutdown and even testing how to roll it out.
In contrast, what (most) Democrats voted against was essentially the same continuing resolution that Democrats supported in March. This political gamesmanship is why it is so important to send your faxes.
How Radicals Plan to Discard the Hyde Amendment:
As I noted above, some Republican senators are crafting a “compromise” that will fund the killing of babies to appease the Democrats. I litigated the first private lawsuit against Obamacare. We’ve fought against this slide down to socialized medicine from Day One.
In Obamacare, Section 1303 mandated that insurance plans covering abortion had to bill that portion separately from the rest of the premium. Later guidance let insurers process the charges together in one combined payment, erasing the line the statute tried to draw.
A 2014 Government Accounting Office (GAO) did a spot check of 18 providers and found widespread noncompliance. Not a single insurance provider segregated the funds. The guardrails put in place to protect tax dollars from paying for abortions clearly aren’t working.
If Congress expands this subsidy (and makes it permanent) as Democrats are demanding through the shutdown, it will expand the number of people enrolled in subsidized insurance plans, with a single payment, that includes abortion coverage.
This is the real reason Democrats are wailing for so-called “health care,” but in reality, it is “death care” they are demanding! We need your help to stop this. Send as many faxes as possible to Congress to urge them to stand strong against these demands.
Democrats have submitted a “Counterfeit Resolution,” and what it includes is disturbing. Their plan does all the following:
- Removes work requirements for able-bodied adults on taxpayer-funded health programs.
- Rescinds border security measures and construction of a wall.
- Provides free health care for illegal aliens.
- Oddly enough, it repeals 50 billion dollars for rural health care, hurting hospitals and clinics in vulnerable, low-population communities.
- Instead, it resumes racist DEI pet projects in foreign countries.
- Props up liberal news programs like NPR.
- Demands wasteful Green New Deal grants.
- Usurps the president’s authority over emergency funds and the ability to make agile decisions while locking in Biden-era grants.
- Adds an additional 1.5 trillion in new spending!
Each one of these points is a radical wish-list item that harms people.
The fight isn’t just over “keeping the lights on” — it’s over whether a subsidy extension without explicit pro-life guardrails would channel taxpayer dollars into plans that include elective abortion.
