Following the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approving a new generic abortion drug last week, 51 Senators led by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) sent a letter to the FDA and the Department of Health and Human Services calling for immediate action.
The letter lists recommendations to swiftly end Biden’s mail-order policy and reinstate commonsense safeguards while the FDA’s promised review on abortion drug safety is underway. Abortion drugs are responsible for sending women and girls to ERs, with many suffering serious complications like hemorrhaging, infection, sepsis, and even death.
President Biden’s FDA exploited COVID-19 to recklessly remove the in-person dispensing requirement, taking the doctor out of the picture and allowing mail-order abortion drugs without any medical oversight, safeguards or even confirmation that it’s the woman ordering the drugs.

As the letter states:
“The ‘abortion-on-demand’ culture enabled by the Biden-Harris administration’s removal of critical safeguards on the only FDA-approved abortion regimen is currently the biggest threat to unborn life in America today… Today, your agencies have all the information they need to bring an end to previous Democrat-administrations’ abortion drug regulations while a comprehensive review is conducted.”
Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser issued the following statement:
“We are deeply grateful to Senator Lindsey Graham and 50 Senators for urging the FDA to act swiftly to protect women and unborn children by restoring safeguards recklessly removed by the Biden Administration. At a minimum the FDA must immediately reverse the Biden-era policy of removing doctors by allowing mail-order abortion drugs without in-person medical oversight. Women are endangered by taking the drugs without a sonogram to check for ectopic pregnancy and confirm the gestational age of the child. Further, doctors can help screen for coercion and abuse, which is becoming more and more prevalent.
“Week after week these dangerous drugs cause more tragedies: women coerced and poisoned, girls rushed to the ER, mothers dying along with their babies – all while the abortion industry profits from deception and abusers benefit from unfettered drug access. Enough is enough.
“Our government must immediately reinstate the commonsense safeguards that were in place during President Trump’s first term while they conduct a comprehensive study on these dangerous drugs. Every day they wait, more unborn Americans die and more women and girls go to the ER with serious complications.”
